Even though elderly citizens have a diminished sensation for thirst, it does not mean that they need to drink less water. In fact, hydration becomes even more important for their health. It is necessary to drink more natural mineral water for the following reasons.
- Old age diminishes the sensation for thirst: seniors are used to drinking less water than their recommended intake. By the time senior feel that they need to drink water, they will be far too dehydrated and their health is negatively affected.
- Seniors drink less water. For fear of urinary incontinence, especially at night, senior citizens drink less water than they actually should.
- Water is crucial to the functioning of the kidneys. The capacity of the kidneys reduces with age. Therefore, the risk of dehydration is higher.
